BEAUTY WITH A THOUGHT

Efva Attling was born in Stockholm. She made her first piece of jewellery when she was eleven years old. At the age of sixteen she was a pupil of one of Sweden’s greatest silversmiths, Bengt Liljedahl. But Eileen Ford impressed Efva at the age of seventeen and her modelling career began. Through the years she’s also designed clothes for Levi’s and H&M.

Having music in her family and in her heart, Efva created a band in 1981 called the X Models. The band had a hit ballad,”Two of us”, in the 80’s that Efva wrote. Since 1996, Efva has returned to where she once started: working with silver, gold and precious stones. Today she also designs glasses for Scandinavian Eyewear as well as crystal for Orrefors. Efva has also designed a trophy for the Swedish Grammy awards, which is casted in solid glass and platinum and a prize for the Swedish King Carl XVI Gustaf’s foundation “Ungt ledarskap,” which was an 18 K gold pin.

Efva Attling opened her first private workshop in February 1999 in the centre of Stockholm. This year the company celebrates its tenth anniversary.

Efva calls her style in jewellery design “Beauty with a thought.” Carol Woolton, the jewellery editor at British Vogue, describes Efva’s style by writing: “I’ve always been attracted to Scandinavian design, for it’s wonderful lack of complication, and Efva’s creations are loaded with elements like purity and simplicity that can be so elusive in other hands. Her sleek strong lines in silver and gold are fresh and clean but with a loop in silver, a dash of diamonds, or a brilliant blue topaz she adds a touch of warmth and luxury. The pieces radiate with youthful energy and humour. There is never a glimpse of glitz or unnecessary opulence in her work, it’s directional and design driven, and what I would call calm luxury.”
