Solo exhibition by Latvian ceramic artist Maira Karstā

ODE TO THE DILL

The artist gained inspiration for her pottery collection in the colouring pallette and shapes of the past summer and autumn. Maira Karstā’s vases and tableware  are featured by a clear and  laconic shape that, in this exhibition, is decorated with the imprints of stylised flowers and feelings.“The dominant pattern is huge dill flower heads growing so widely in my garden.
While harvesting them, I was attracted by their appearance, lights game and those perfect, nature-made proportions. Suddenly, an idea stroke my mind – to use these motives created by nature in my works – for me also, the shape that I design on my potter’s wheel has always been important.
In this collection, I have used a great variety of colours to create the feeling of a flower meadow.
And, by the way, dill prefers growing particularly in places where it sows naturally its seeds….  In my garden, they grow among the roses.”
