at Art gallery PUTTI
As a part of Riga Fashion Week events 2014
Estonian contemporary artist`s Tanel Veenre’s solo exhibition
SIMPLY TOO NATURESQUE*
The essence of this exhibition artist puts into words of the musician Bob Dylan:
„I am against nature. I don’t dig nature at all. I think nature is very unnatural. I think the truly natural things are dreams, which nature can’t touch with decay. “
Tanel Veenre’s jewellery will take you on a journey that will start from the depths of the sea, continue through coral reefs, past dancing sea horses and then on to the cultivation of silkworms. The voyage will end in a cosmic cloud. This artist creates jewellery out of unusual materials like fishing floats or cosmic dust.
„I am not sure where to draw the line. The only thing I know is what I feel. And it`s urge, it`s call of creating. Therefore all the forms are growing out of my fingers like grass from the ground. Until my art becomes nature, human nature.
I am not copying, neither denying nor defeating nature. It`s more like echoing it, filtering it through my inner soils. So it becomes couture – but as Goethe has put: „The unnatural, that too is natural“.
Let it be then burlesque, arabesque and baroque – nature full of itself. Naturesque. “
Tanel Veenre (1977) has graduated from Estonian Academy of Arts, Metal Art Department (2001). As a guest-student he has studied at at Gerrit Rietveld Academie, Jewellery Design department (1997 – 1998) under professor Ruudt Peter. Since 2005 the artist has worked as a lecturer at Estonian Academy of Arts, Metal Art Department and since 2012 he also gives lectures at the Design faculty. Since 1994 Tanel Veenre has been surprisingly on a European scale very active in exhibiting his works not only in fashion shows and performances but also in the field of contemporary jewellery. His art is exhibited at Estonian History Museum and Estonian Museum of Applied Art and Design, as well as in gallery Espace Solidor, (Cagnes-sur-Mer, France) and foundation Rotasa Collection Trust (California, USA) collections.
