Enamel in contemporary jewellery

Since ancient times enamelling has been the only type of metal dyeing with long lasting effect that was used to decorate the surfaces of the finest metal ornaments – jewellery, crowns, scepter, armor, etc. At its core, enamel is the fusion of powdered glass to metal at high temperature. In order to achieve the required color tone, the enamel mass is added to the pigment before the heating – this allows to give the jewellery numerous variations of color gamma without using gems.
Jewellery artists often uses enamelling because it allows them to add a painterly or illustrative quality to their work.
